My December Favourites: 2017

How is it already December?!

This year has been a blur. And when I find the time to slow down and reflect I see a lot of hills and valleys in 2017. I spent time in many emergency rooms, slaved away in coffee shops to write papers and blog posts, traveled across the world with my boyfriend, and I started working in the real adult world.

So many big moments stick out to me in 2017, but I really want to slow down and remember some of the little things. Especially in the little (and final) moments of December as we start to transition into a new, beautiful year. Here are some of the things I’ve been loving lately…

Davids Tea – Candy Cane Crush: The scent alone will transport you into a winter wonderland, and it’s a perfect way to get into the holiday spirit. I’ve recently purchased their latte mix of this flavour, and it’s definitely becoming a nightly staple.

Estee Lalonde – The Heart of It Podcast: I have long been a fan of Estee Lalonde. A Canadian living in London with a love of beauty and her greyhound named Reggie – she’s pretty cool. I’ve watched her YouTube videos for probably the last 5 years with a deep sense that she was someone worth keeping up with. Her podcast, which just released this last year, is so much better than I could have imagined. The production is incredible, and I actually feel like I’m learning something while also getting to a piece of her personality woven within the themes she chooses to speak about.

Bath & Body Works Candles: Currently loving Flannel (because who doesn’t like the smell of a man’s cologne) and Fresh Balsam (which is a beautiful addition to my fake Christmas tree). In the month of December, these have been burning non-stop, and I’m definitely not mad about it.

Elizabeth & James, Nirvana Bourbon: This scent is unbelievably hard to describe but it somehow feels comforting, spicy, and daring all at once. I stumbled upon this bottle on an average Sephora visit and somehow found myself sniffing it every time I returned. I feel like it can almost be a scent for men, and maybe that’s why I’m weirdly drawn to it. Now that it’s part of my collection, I spray this spicy scent as a simple reminder that my personal scent can be as diverse as I want to be.

Mario Badescu Drying Lotion: This magic potion has both the strength of a spot treatment and the calming effect of calamine. I found mine at Anthropologie, but this baby can also be found at Urban Outfitters and Amazon (I recommend the green tea and aloe spray as well!)

Adnan’s Story: Do you remember when the podcast Serial came out in late 2014 and the world was enveloped by the story of Adnan and the murder of ex-girlfriend Hae Min Lee? Well, so was I. I blew through the entire season while on planes, trains, and automobiles across Europe and was convinced I needed to tell everyone along the way just how good of a story this was. The Serial podcast is good, but this book is truly great.

The Sun and Her Flowers: I will forever be a Rupi Kaur fan after picking up Milk & Honey on a cross-country road trip two summers ago. Those words at that time in my life will be a beautiful reminder that we are never alone in our human experience.

Tarte Cosmetics Toasted Pallete: I’m no makeup guru, nor do I attempt to use eyeshadow on a daily basis, but this make-up palette is beautiful. Tarte has done it again!

Sage Liquid Sunshine: A friend of mine gifted me this essential oil with a car diffuser, and it’s been a game changer on my morning commute. This smells like lemonade on steroids, and it instantly puts a smile on my face every morning.

Hexagon Ring: Feel free to check out this post where I explain my love of hexagon jewelry and the message it carries when I wear it. My favourite hexagon ring was semi-deformed through a basketball arcade game. However, it still makes its way on my finger, deformity and all.
