January Favourites

2017 has been treating me well.

Currently, I am in nesting mode in my new apartment, I’ve started a new practicum placement, and I have been investing in new relationships as I’ve settled back into Calgary. Returning to this city means I’ve been enjoying some old favourites, as well as trying to branch out and explore new things that have popped up in my time away.

Here are some of my favourite things I’ve discovered (or rediscovered) over the last month:

Spinster – I don’t know if I can describe how encouraging this book has been to my life. In this new year, I’ve really started to embrace what living alone (as well as being unmarried in my mid-twenties) means to me and this chapter in my life. This book has been a cool realization that things will work out how they’re supposed to, and that I have some pretty badass female role models I can look up to.

Rosso Coffee Roasters, Inglewood – Though I am just settling back into Calgary life, I still think I have a pretty good handle on the coffee shops that YYC has to offer. Rosso, specifically their Inglewood location, has to be one of my favourites. Amazing coffee aside, the variety of seats, cool textures throughout, and brick vibe has me visiting as often as I can.

Good Morning Beautiful Mug – This mug is an oldie compared to some of the new ones I’ve added to my apartment, but it will forever be a classic in my home. Big enough for a perfect cup of coffee, this mug is the perfect addition to a slow going Sunday morning.

Yes to Tomatoes Moisturizer – I’ve been using this moisturizer for the last month or so, and once I saw it go on sale at Shoppers I had to add to my stockpile collection. Day and night I slap on this moisturizer that leaves my skin hydrated, not overly greasy, and a great base for makeup or eye cream in the evening.

Vanilla Coconut Bath Bomb – This was a Christmas gift from my mom who lives just blocks away from the OG Rocky Mountain Soap Co. store in beautiful Canmore. And though I am slowly getting more into baths and bath bombs, this was an easy gateway into the world of relaxing in a tub of water. The smell is divine and left my water silky soft.

Makers of Wax Goods – This was a random find, but has been a beautiful addition to my home. This candle, housed in a beautiful mug, is scented with vanilla and espresso and is made from soy wax so you can feel a little bit better about burning it. This smell envelops my entire living room and brings such a sweet scent to my home.

Kodiak Pancake Mix – This is a Costco favourite that can be a little tricky to find at times but is completely worth the search. It’s as easy as mixing one part pancake mix with one part water, throwing it into my waffle maker and voila! A handheld breakfast on the go. It’s also sweet enough to eat without any toppings, though I highly suggest adding some peanut butter and bananas… It’s also packed with protein which means it will keep you full all the way into lunch.

Overall, January has been a pretty cool start to my 2017 year. Things are still new, still developing and settling in, but I feel much more at peace with this new stage of my life. I’m excited to see what February (and turning 25) has in store for me.
