As I continue to learn and practice mindfulness, I continue to experiment with as many forms out there to understand what works for myself and potentially others. I’ve recently been introduced to a ‘Loving Kindness’ meditation that is easy and so, so enjoyable.
“May I be happy.
May I be safe.
May I be healthy.
May I be at peace”
I appreciate that this meditation starts with yourself. You repeat the mantra using “I” for as many times as you feel necessary. From there, you can substitute yourself for someone special into your life. So it reads something like, “May ____ be happy, may ____ be safe…”
Bringing attention to the loved ones in your life helps your brain spark some feel good hormones and lets your positivity shine through. Next, replace your loved one’s name for someone you have been struggling with lately. This could be a family member, a co-worker, a friend… anyone that you feel could benefit from well wishes. They never have to know, but this may help you change your attitude towards them.May I be happy, may I be safe. May I be healthy, may I be at peace. Click To Tweet
Lastly, repeat the mantra with the world in mind. “May the world be happy, may the world be safe…”
Try this loving kindness meditation on a daily basis, or incorporate it into a weekly practice along with your other mindfulness practices. Start becoming aware of how your attitude changes to those you wish loving kindness upon, and, don’t forget how your attitude towards yourself changes as you bestow loving kindness onto yourself.
